F.A.Qs

If I take my pet to Dr. Jeffers, what role will my veterinarian play?

The services provided by a specialist should be an extension of those offered by your general veterinarian.

As such, Dr. Jeffers requires a copy of your pet’s medical records or a completed veterinary referral form to be faxed to his office or brought with you and your pet to your first visit. The record of treatments and diagnostic tests performed by your veterinarian will provide vital information, prevent unnecessary repetition of procedures and generally expedite the diagnosis and treatment of your pet’s skin problem.

Almost each time you visit Dr. Jeffers, he will send a letter to your veterinarian updating him or her on your pet’s progress. This information will be kept in your pet’s medical file. Excellent communication between Dr. Jeffers and your veterinarian is invaluable in providing the best care possible for your pet.

Why doesn’t my veterinarian treat my pet’s skin problems?

Your pet’s veterinarian is equipped to successfully treat most common skin disorders. However, you veterinarian is also responsible for keeping up-to-date in all aspects of veterinary medicine. It is impossible for a general practitioner to be as experienced or well informed regarding the latest dermatologic techniques and treatments as the specialist who has advanced training and only treats diseases of the skin. Referring your pet to a specialist usually indicates that your veterinarian cares about you and your pet and wants the skin problem treated in the safest, most effective manner possible.

Can Dr. Jeffers provide all of my pet’s medical care?

Since Dr. Jeffers is a specialist, he only treats animals with skin disease and never provides routine veterinary care. Your veterinarian will continue to provide your pet with comprehensive medical care.
